In 1945, a prostitute named Marion dreamed of becoming a music-hall star—and even a real princess. Her loyal friend and protector was Little Louis, a man who found the meaning of his life in his hopeless love for Marion. He always accompanied her to dangerous meetings with a petty thief and card player whom Marion called her prince, even though much more dangerous gangsters were after him.
